Bloomberg: Getting Started

Guide to using the Bloomberg terminals in Pius Library.

Bloomberg Help

The HELP key (green, in the upper left corner of the keyboard) has two main functions:

1. If you enter a keyword in the command bar at the top of the screen and press HELP, you can search the entire Bloomberg database for mentions of that keyword.  This a great way to search, especially if you're new to the system and don't yet know which commands to use.

2. Press HELP twice to open a ticket with a Bloomberg Help Desk representative. They are very responsive, and will give you detailed instructions for navigating to the information you need.

Twelve Bloomberg terminals are now located in the Edward Jones Data Analytics Lab in the John Cool School of Business. These terminals can be used by any current SLU student, faculty or staff member.

  1. Launch BLOOMBERG.
  2. Press the <GO> key.
  3.  Click "Create a New Login" near the bottom of the screen.
  4. Follow screen prompts. You will need your cell phone.
  5. Choose method for Validation
    (SMS Text Message Preferred)
  6. Bloomberg sends code.
  7. Enter Validation Code on the terminal.
  8. Answer additional informational questions.
  9. You may now login with your personal username and password.
