Services for EAP Students

Welcome to the EAP 4000: Introduction to Research Guide!

If you have any questions, please contact me in person, phone, email, and/or chat. I am happy to meet with you to help with any information needs you have.

Research Consultation Information

  • Book 24 hours in advance
  • 10-60 minutes, as many times as you need
  • Meet in the library

What students can expect from a consultation:

  • A collaborative experience
  • Discuss the assignment
  • Review specific concepts related to the research process
  • Look at specific tools to use for searching
  • Find resources that may be helpful

To prepare for the consultation, students should:

  • Be familiar with their assignment
  • Understand the parameters of the project and resources they need
  • Be prepared to be fully engaged in the process - the librarian is a guide, not someone who can and will give all the answers!

Ways to book an appointment with Martha Allen:

Books, DVDs, Reserve items

  • What you need: SLU ID + the item you wish to checkout.
  • Procedure: Bring the ID and the item to either the circulation or information desk. A staff member will check it out for you.
  • Certain restrictions may apply to various materials, so see this webpage for more information.

Requesting materials from outside Pius Library

  • MOBIUS: A consortia of libraries within Missouri in which SLU has borrowing agreements.
  • Interlibrary Loan: Commonly called ILL, is a way to get books that are not available within the MOBIUS system, as well as journal articles the library does not have access to.

Off-campus Access

  • Provided to all SLU faculty, staff, and students.
  • Access our resources from anywhere in the world by signing in via our proxy server using your SLU Net ID and password.

Reserve and EReserve

  • Many instructors put course materials on reserve to make sure you have access to the materials you need. Check with your instructor to see if you have materials on Ereserve or on reserve at library circulation desks.
