Health Information Resources for SLU Alumni

If you are working for a hospital, health care system, or academic medical center, be sure to check with the library at your institution. Most of the libraries have a print collection of books and journals and many will have electronic access to books, journals, and databases like MEDLINE, CINAHL, and others. Even if your medical library has a very small collection, they may be able to order journal articles and books that you need through their interlibrary loan service.

Health care practitioners in Missouri may be eligible to subscribe to the MAHEC Digital Library, a “core set of health information resources for all AHEC supported preceptors, students and other health care providers who are practicing in Missouri.” For more information, visit the MAHEC web site https://mahec.org/

Another possible way for you to obtain journal articles or books is through your local public library. For example, members of the St. Louis Public Library system may request articles through Interlibrary Loan for which they pay a processing fee charged by the lending library. Many Public Libraries also have databases-please check under their e-resources to see which ones are included with your library card.

If you need an article urgently, check the journal's website for purchasing options. A majority of biomedical journal publishers allow for articles to be purchased directly online.
