Locating the book in the stacks

How do I locate a book in the stacks?

  • After you find a book in the catalog, check its current status (checked out or available), library location, and call number.
  • Write down the call number or
  • Use the location guide to find out where that call number is located in the library. Can't find it? Ask for help at the Information Desk.
  • Go to the appropriate floor to retrieve your book and check it out at the library's circulation desk with your SLU ID. You can request the book but it takes about 24 hours for the book to be retrieved so it is faster if you get it yourself.
  • You can also have books sent from the Law Library and the Med Center Library to Pius Library for pickup. Just click the request button.

What if the book is not available at SLU Libraries

What if the SLU Libraries don't have the book you need or if our copy is not available?

If the SLU Libraries don't have a book that you need, or our copy is checked out, you can request the book from MOBIUS, our library network.

Click on the Search the MOBIUS catalog link on

When you locate the book in MOBIUS, click the REQUEST THIS ITEM link and follow the instructions. Your book will be delivered in a few days. You will get an email to your SLU account when your book arrives. Pickup the book at the Pius circulation desk (East entrance). It usually takes about 3 working days.

If the book is not available in MOBIUS you can expand your search to Prospector. You can access the Prospector search from the MOBIUS page.

If the book is not available in MOBIUS or Prospector, use ILLiad Interlibrary Loan to request the book.
