How to do a Literature Review

the basic steps for a literature review

What are subject headings?

These are terms applied to abstracts that describe the article.  These are sometimes referred to as index terms or thesaurus terms.  Think of these as hashtags to describe articles.  In PubMed, these are called Medical Subject Headings or MeSH.  For other databases look for a Thesaurus.  Not every database has these.

You will want to search both the subject headings AND keyword if you are doing an exhaustive search.
