For many students, this is the trickiest part of the project and requires the most critical thinking. You will need to apply open systems theory to what you know so far about your company, based on both your research and on your experience as a consumer.

- Which factors are relevant to all firms in the industry, and which are specific to your company?
- Is your company primarily a manufacturer (in which case, raw materials may be the most important input) or a service provider (in which case, skilled employees or consumer demographics may be more important inputs)?
