E-Reserves / Print Reserves

Welcome

General information on Library E-Reserve and Print Reserve can be found on this page. Please don't hesitate to contact the proper Library (depending on which campus your course is taught) for assistance!

COVID-19 Messages About Print Reserves

COVID-19 quarantining protocols for library materials pose challenges to traditional print reserves. Please notify the Reserves contact: eres@slu.edu for Pius Library and ereshsc@slu.edu for the Medical Center Library, or your liaison librarian for information regarding alternative solutions.

Law faculty should plan for the possibility that students will not have reliable access to the law library's print material including items normally on permanent or course reserve. Posting material on TWEN or Blackboard course pages will ensure access. Law faculty should contact their liaison librarian for help identifying digital versions of needed material.

Copyright Guidelines

Guidelines for determining fair use, drawn from federal law, are

  1. the purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of a commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes;
  2. the nature of the copyrighted work -- factual or non-fiction works vs. highly creative works such as art, music, or novels;
  3. the amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole; and
  4. the effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work.

There are some instances when copyright restricts use of materials for Reserves. Library staff will work with faculty in such cases to suggest alternative Reserve materials.
