Statement of purpose

Constraints in engineering design

To explore and give an exposure to engineering students on realistic (non-technical) constraints needed in design of a system.

This Resource Guide

The areas of constraint are addressed by professional organizations, agencies, institutions and in the academic literature. This guide will provide you the tools necessary to complete your project -- the tabs above will link you to library and internet sources.

Problem statement

In addition to the technical literature, as an engineer you will be responsible for many areas and have to consider the effects of your actions on the environment, the economy, safety, sustainability, general social welfare, political and public policy, manufacturing limitations, and of course ethics.

This guide will provide you the tools necessary to complete your projects -- the tabs above will link you to library and internet sources for each design constraint.
These are intended as starting points and shortcuts -- you are not limited to these.

For each area you are expected to research a scenario and produce a short paper which uses the literature to explain the individual constraints.
