Vincent C. Immel Law Library Guide to Requesting Materials

A guide to assist students, faculty, and staff of Saint Louis University School of Law with the requesting process at the Vincent C. Immel Law Library

Frequently Asked Questions

How long will it take for my book to come in?

Items from our Locust Street offsite storage generally arrive in 24-48 hours.

SLULink and MOBIUS items generally take 3-5 business days.

ILLiad items are individual to each request. Books generally take more time than articles,  but it all depends if the library we request the item from has it on their shelves and how quickly they can send it out to us.

How long can I keep my requests?

From a SLU Library: 120 days

From a MOBIUS Library 28 or 120 days

From an ILLiad request: Due dates depend on the lending library. Some libraries will give a long due date, but not allow renewals while others have a shorter due date, but one renewal. If the due date is close and we are not able to renew the item, we ask that you scan any sections you need and return the item so it can be sent back to the lending library.

How do I renew my item?

SLU items will be automatically renewed twice unless it has been requested, recalled, or it is a part of a reserved library collection. Your new due date will be at the bottom of the automated email notification. MOBIUS items will have one 40 day loan period with no renewals.

How long will it take for my article to come in?

The length of time it takes for an article request comes in is individual to each request. Articles generally come faster than books, but it all depends on if the library we request the item from has it on their shelves and how quickly they can send it out to us.

How long can I keep my requests?

Articles will stay in your ILLiad account for 30 days. We encourage you to download and save or print your articles when you receive them.

My item is due back soon and I don't think I can renew it again and my editor says we need to have it on our shelves. What do I do?

Scan any portion that you need from the requested item and bring it back to the library so we can return it to the lending library. If you discover a discrepancy, we will be happy to re-request the item.

Can I request just the table of contents for a journal article?

As a matter of policy, the table of contents for journal articles owned electronically is not requestable through interlibrary loan.

How will I know when the item I have requested has come in?

Your faculty member will receive an email when the item you have requested is ready to be picked up. If you have made an ILLiad request, you will get an email letting you know your item is ready to be picked up.
