Founded in 1866, the Missouri Historical Society collects and preserves items related to the history of this region.   Its research collections that document "the history of St. Louis, the State of Missouri, the Mississippi and Missouri Valleys, the Louisiana Purchase Territory, and the American West" are available to researchers at its Library and Research Center.  Visit its exhibits and museum shop in person or online.
