Search Tips

Many books don’t have many (or any) subject fields, so searching using keywords will bring back many more results

Try multiple terms in different languages: many of the book in our collections, especially Early Modern works, are not in English

You can use an asterisk * to truncate search terms

Example: search "herb*" as a keyword:

  • pro: will bring back herb, herbs, herbal, herba, herbis, & herbarum (latin), & herbe (french)
  • con: will also bring back Herbert, Herbermann, Herbelot & Herbipoli

Modify general catalog searches to limit results to just those in the Rare Book Collection by adding a title search for "Rare Book Collection"
